Shark tank proposal: Heated Jacket, Diya Rao

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

If you live in New Jersey like me, you know how cold it gets in the winter. Temperatures drop to the teens, and yet, people still go outside. New Jersey is very close to New York, and NY is well known for it’s Christmas movies, Rockefeller center, and much more. All of these pertain to the cold weather. Although the winter season has its benefits, there are also some underlying conditions- hypothermia, flu, and more. To be out in the cold for long periods of time, you need to dress up to par.

This being said, there are many thick winter jackets to purchase from pretty much any store around you. Some of the most popular (and expensive) ones being Moncler, Canada Goose, and North Face. Many people don’t have the luxury to afford these nice, warm jackets, and I have just the solution (that comes with an extra benefit)! It’s the heated jacket. Now, you must’ve heard about heated floors, heated towel warmers, etc., but, what we really need is something to keep us warm during these cold winters OUTSIDE.

My heated jacket will be a standard puffer with built-in settings to heat the jacket (either low, medium, or high heat) to keep you warm in the cold winters. There will be a large piece in the jacket that will control the heat and the settings. The piece will have specially-made batteries (that only fit for the jacket) and will only need to be replaced every couple of months.

The target audience(s) for this jacket is people who can’t afford a nice jacket to keep them warm for months or years and those who are commuting to work everyday on foot. There are many fortunate people in the world who have worked hard to get where they are, but the people who aren’t as fortunate deserve the same chance. By not having the right clothes to get them place to place (their job, college, an interview), their chances are slim to none.

We are making this jacket for everyone. This being said, the prices will be affordable. We want people to reach for their dreams in any way they can, and if our jacket will help, then so be it. This idea came to me because I live in an area that gets extremely cold in the winter and I've been to places where I've seen people shivering out on the streets, looking for food and shelter. If we can’t give them that, the least they deserve is to be warm during these hard times.

Thank You!!
